[5] he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
It's a common human tendency to believe that we can earn our righteousness through our actions, striving to be worthy in the eyes of God. However, Titus 3:5-7 teaches us a different truth.
The good news is that this salvation is a gift, freely given to us through Jesus Christ.
We become heirs of eternal life, not because of anything we have done, but because of God's unmerited favor and love for us.
